The Background
South Asia spends just 1% of its GDP on health, leading to poor health indicators, preventable deaths, and financial hardships for low-income households. The infant mortality rate is 74 per 1,000 live births, and maternal mortality is 274 per 100,000 live births. Communicable diseases, maternal health, and under-nutrition account for half of the disease burden, with high rates of TB, hepatitis, diabetes, hypertension, and smoking. Primary care coverage is low, with only 36% of mothers receiving recommended antenatal visits and 54% of children fully immunized. Public healthcare is underfunded and inadequate, while private healthcare remains inaccessible to the poor.
WCF History In The Region
World Compassion Fellowship has treated more than 32,000 patients in more than 19 countries in our Mobile Medical Clinics. The Clinics provide primary care, treatment for infectious diseases, treatment for acute and chronic conditions, and other needed medical services and health promotion events. WCF has also organized intensive Business and Job Skills Training classes in 19 countries for more than 4,500 students.
WCF has sent many mobile medical teams into the South Asia region since 2007 treating thousands of patients in multiple countries.
