Nepal Life Centers
What We Provide:
WCF provides limited funding and technical support for a community faith based hospital and 2 Job Skills Training Centers in different parts of Nepal. Support includes curriculum, training and medical services and software.
Medical Services
Our partner hospital aims to serve the needy, marginalized and poor community of several districts in Nepal holistically through health, education and community development. It was born out of the vision of the children of one of the families of former bondage laborers belonging to the lowest caste system of Nepal whose five siblings had died untimely due to common and easily preventable diseases like Diarrhea or treatable conditions such as burns and fever.
Our Life Center is staffed with local professionals - Physicians, Nurses, and other support staff. The Medical Life Center provides:
Primary medical care – such as infectious disease treatment and chronic illness management
Outpatient and Inpatient services including chronic, infectious and palliative care patients
Labs, X-ray, Ultrasound Imaging
Endoscopy and other emergency surgeries
Job Skills Services
We have 2 locations near the capital that serve the community with Job Skills Training. Our Life Center is staffed by local teachers. The Job Skills Life Center provides classes in:
English
Computer
Sewing
After-School – Educational and enrichment programs designed to provide academic support, creative activities, and life skills for children, fostering a safe and nurturing environment outside school hours.
Our Mission
The WCF Life Center is a holistic community center that provides affordable Medical, Dental and Social Services, Job Skills Training and Character/Leadership Training to underserved and marginalized peoples in partnership with local ministries that share the same heart and mission.
The Background
Nepal is mostly known for its famous Himalayan Mountain range including the tallest mountain in the world, Mt Everest. About 75% of the country is covered by mountains. Nepal is the poorest country in South Asia and 17th poorest in the world and approximately 25% of Nepalis live below the poverty line. The rural unemployment rate is 42% and creates a sense of vulnerability and hopelessness in rural Nepal. Its transportation network is one of the worst in the world with few adequate roads and few motor vehicles. Its rail system is poorly developed.
Nepal’s social structures remain dominated by Hinduism. The caste system is technically illegal, but remains a strong influence and causes discrimination. The ‘untouchables’ or Dalits make up 14% of the population.
