Haiti Humanitarian Relief
What We Provide:
World Compassion Fellowship (WCF) sponsors a Daily Food Program and supplemented by Food & Hygiene Care Kits in Jacmel to provide a healthy meal for approximately 150 children per week:
- Fresh meat and vegetables from the markets
- Propane for ovens
- Salaries for the food program workers
How We help
WCF has been involved in Haiti since its inception in 2006 by sponsoring humanitarian food programs, education sponsorships, mobile medical and job skills teaching teams and a Life Center. We have seen young children who started in our partner ministry's food program (also part of WCF's Humanitarian projects) grow up from abject poverty to become professional Computer Programmers and Medical Doctors thanks to faithful year after year support.
WCF sponsors a Food Program that provides a nutritious cooked lunch for children for 5 days of the week. Most of these children come from the poorest of the poor in this rural community. The unemployment rate in these areas is estimated at 70% and the malnutrition rate is 75%.
Background
Haiti is grappling with a deepening crisis as escalating gang violence compounds existing challenges of poverty, food insecurity, and lack of education. Gangs now control significant portions of the country, disrupting daily life, restricting movement, and making it unsafe for families to access essential services or earn a living. This instability has worsened the already dire economic conditions, with 60% of the population living on less than $2.41 a day. Many families cannot afford even one hot meal daily. The combined effects of violence, hunger, and lack of education leave much of the population trapped in a cycle of poverty and despair.
WCF has maintained Food Programs and Education Sponsorships for many years to combat hunger while also providing access to education. By offering nutritious meals, we ensure that families can focus on long-term goals rather than daily survival. By offering Sponsorships, we help families to go to Primary, Secondary schools and even University where previous graduates included Doctors, Nurses, Computer Programmers and other professionals. Together, these efforts aim to break the cycle of poverty by addressing both immediate needs and the root causes of economic insecurity.
Previously, WCF launched an ESL/Computer Life Center in 2019 that provided English, Computer and Character & Leadership Training to the poorest of the poor. This Life Center has had to close due to the country situation. WCF also mobilized Mobile Medical and Job Skills Training teams for many years. These have been temporarily suspended due to the situation. We hope to resume these programs in the future.
