Mobile Medical Team To Jordan
We took a mobile medical team to Jordan which hosts 1.3 million war refugees from Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Sudan and Somalia, one of the highest refugee populations in the world.
Life Centers
In 2021, WCF launched 3 Life Centers here we have seen more than 13,700 patients come through our doors. In addition, our main Life Center also offers job skills classes in English, Computers, Sewing, and other vocations. We've had 423 students since 2022.
Medical Services:
Our medical team served at all 3 Life Centers as well as at a refugee camp near the Syrian border. Overall, we were able to treat 476 patients. Our local medical staff joined us most of the week to help as translators and providers and they did a phenomenal job.
Throughout the clinics, some of our patients opened up and began sharing their tragic history or their present trauma. For example, one woman began weeping when she shared how she works as a house cleaner, but has been sexually harassed by home owners. Our doctor called me over and we connected her with local counselors for follow-up.
We saw many patients with chronic illnesses such as hypertension and Type 2 diabetes. We had 2 Ob/Gyns on our team so we were able to address many women's health issues that our Life Centers here lacked experience in.
Refugee Camp
Our last medical clinic was at a refugee camp near the Syrian border in a desert like area. We had visited this camp last month where we distributed 80 fans to the families here. When we returned this time, it was 102 degrees with no shade and not a single tree in sight. I had to squeeze the team into a container and a big tent. I was out there in the sun most of the day getting people registered. We also did 2 home tent visits to treat a disabled girl and an elderly woman. It was honestly brutal. I wondered how the people, especially the elderly and the children could survive and most of the people had been refugees for 13 years.
Our local partner has only just started coming to this camp and they are starting to build relationships here. The people were so grateful for all the help we were able to provide them and hopefully we will return in the future.
We were very happy to serve the whole week here and especially to serve at our local Life Centers and our staff there. Thank you again for all your support.
