A New Reason for Hope in Syria

M ore than 1,300 people — mostly civilians — were killed in March during clashes in Latakia between militant forces aligned with the new government and the Alawite people group.

The dead included minorities such as Christians. WCF’s Syrian Life Center partner responded by purchasing food supplies to distribute in the area. Although violence on the roads initially blocked our efforts, our team in Latakia was soon able to respond  —  distributing food and aid packages to 95 families directly affected by the violence. We plan to provide Food and Medication Care Packages to a total of 200 families at a cost of $13,000.

Following this violence, there is a growing sense of hope after the USA and EU announced plans to lift sanctions on Syria as it rebuilds under the new government. WCF workers and partners are cautiously optimistic about the country’s future.

“Lifting the sanctions will bring many benefits to our country,”

a WCF Life Center leader said.

“We pray that this relief will finally open the door to peace in Syria. Please pray with us that our country may fully rise after the long years of war.”

There is still much work ahead before lasting peace is achieved. Along the way, WCF remains committed to our humanitarian work in Syria. Since its inception in 2022, our Life Center has been able to serve 4,749 patients.

“Thank you for your continued love and all that you do to help our people.”

the LC leader said.

“The night is far gone; the day is at hand. So then let us cast off the works of darkness and put on the armor of light.”
