Country Overview

The country boasts a diverse culture influenced by its Mayan heritage, African roots, and Caribbean vibes. English is the official language, reflecting its colonial history as a former British colony.

Belize is renowned for its stunning barrier reef, the second largest in the world, which attracts tourists and divers from around the globe. Its lush rainforests, teeming with wildlife, offer opportunities for eco-tourism and adventure activities such as hiking and birdwatching.

The economy of Belize relies heavily on agriculture, with key exports including sugar, citrus fruits, and bananas. Tourism is also a significant contributor to the economy, with visitors drawn to the country's natural beauty and archaeological sites, such as the ancient Maya ruins of Caracol and Xunantunich.

Despite its natural beauty, Belize faces challenges such as poverty and crime, particularly in urban areas. Conservation efforts are underway to protect its delicate ecosystems and biodiversity.

Country Projects

Development

In Belize, transitioning towards a service-oriented economy, initiatives like those sponsored by WCF focus on empowering local entrepreneurs and small business owners. Through Business Seminars/Mentorship and English classes, individuals gain practical skills in entrepreneurship, business planning, budgeting, marketing, customer service, risk management, and business ethics. This support aims to foster sustainable growth, enabling businesses to uplift families and communities.

Belize faces economic hurdles despite progress. A significant portion of the population lives below the poverty line, with many struggling on less than $1.25 a day. Unemployment remains a concern, with infrastructure limitations and a lack of technical and managerial skills hindering business development. By addressing these challenges through targeted support and education, Belize aims to bolster its economy and improve livelihoods for its people.
