How We Help
WCF sponsors mobile medical teams to provide medical and dental care for the impoverished and underserved in Asia.
WCF mobile medical teams have treated more than 8,000 patients in Asia since its inception. WCF teams have served in remote villages, prisons and jungle areas in some of the most challenging conditions imaginable. Basic resources, electricity or even solid floors were missing in these conditions.
The Background
In Asian countries such as Cambodia, the Philippines, and India, healthcare challenges persist due to limited access to quality services, inadequate infrastructure, high disease burdens, and insufficient funding. These countries face issues such as uneven distribution of healthcare facilities, limited resources and healthcare professionals, disparities in access to healthcare, and a significant burden of both communicable and non-communicable diseases.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), there are only 3 health workers per 1,000 people in Asia, underscoring the pressing need to address the healthcare workforce shortage in the region.
Infectious diseases such as tuberculosis, malaria and dengue fever and non-communicable diseases such as cardiovascular diseases and type 2 diabetes are ongoing health threats.
There is high maternal maternity rates and high malnutrition rates throughout Asia.
Mobile medical clinics that bring in skilled healthcare professionals offer acute relief to local communities lacking regular medical care.
