How We Help

This West Asian region hosts the most refugees in the world at 4 million. In addition, in 2023 there was a devastating earthquake in this region that caused more than 50,000 deaths and more than 160,000 buildings collapsed or severely damaged.

WCF provided more than 3,500 Food-Month Care Packages during COVID-19. In response to the earthquake disaster, we provided more than 30,000 hot meals, 2,000 Food-Month Care Packages, housing shelters for 250 people and 5,000 pieces of clothes, shoes and blankets.

Background

This West Asian region hosts approximately 4 million refugees, the largest refugee population in the world. The refugees come from many countries such as Syria, Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran, and other countries.

Overcrowded urban areas and inadequate housing conditions are common among refugees, with many living in temporary shelters that lack basic amenities. The strain on public services, particularly in healthcare and education, further exacerbates these difficulties. Refugees often struggle to access healthcare due to limited capacity, language barriers, and costs.

Economic challenges compound these issues. Refugees frequently encounter barriers to formal employment due to limited access to work permits. Many are forced to work in low-wage or informal sectors under exploitative conditions.

WCF has been involved in humanitarian care in this region since 2013.
