How We Help
The need for humanitarian care has increased exponentially in Uganda and Kenya due to severe drought and nearby war. Northern Uganda has seen an increase in refugees from Sudan and South Sudan in the past few years due to increasing conflict in both countries. WCF provides Food Care Kits and other essential relief for the most vulnerable families in both regions through our local church partners.
Background
The Sudanese refugee crisis has escalated due to ongoing conflicts in Sudan and South Sudan, forcing thousands to flee their homes. Uganda, known for its open-door refugee policy, hosts a significant number of these refugees in refugee camps. These camps provide shelter, basic necessities, and protection but face challenges such as overcrowding, limited resources, and inadequate healthcare and education facilities. The situation is compounded by persistent insecurity, food shortages, and funding gaps, making it difficult to meet the growing needs of the refugee population.
Drought in Kenya has reached critical levels and millions in the arid and semi-arid regions have been affected by the lack of water and food, whose survival for the majority Maasai community depends on farming and livestock. The drought has also led to educational disruptions, with many children forced to leave school to support their families amid increasing hunger and malnutrition.
