How We Support Vulnerable Women

In many of the regions where we work, women face unique challenges. They are responsible for child bearing and rearing, and daughters are often viewed as less valuable than sons. Women are frequently the target of sexual violence and can bear the brunt of trauma from decades of conflict.

We do everything we can to support women who come to us from desperate situations.

At our Life Center in Pakistan, a woman came to our clinic for a checkup, where we found that she had enteric, or typhoid, fever. As we treated her, she told us that she works as a household servant in the home of an influential person.

He had confiscated all of her identity documents to prevent her going anywhere. We are trying to help her obtain new documents now.

Household servants are vulnerable to abuse of all kinds and work long hours. She is especially vulnerable because she has no relatives, and her husband divorced her a long time ago.

She remains in touch with us still. We are so grateful for how the Life Center connects us to people who need our help.

We also provide maternal and obstetric care whenever we can.

Khalila,* a young married woman, was visiting one of our Lebanon Life Centers regularly for her second pregnancy after she lost her first baby. Our doctor had been working with her to make sure she had the right medication and vitamins and even asked for regular scans. But sadly, it didn’t work out.

Our team has been next to her side the entire time to make it easier for her. Recently, she got pregnant with her third child, but this time it is different. Khalila has peace that God is getting her through this time.

Our doctor and support team are going through the whole process once again with Khalila. We are helping in every way possible. She underwent a surgery, and now she is coming to our clinic weekly for checkups. We have been referring her to a specialist and taking care of the whole pregnancy.

This Women’s History Month, we would like to celebrate all of the women who make the work at our Life Centers possible: managers, doctors, nurses, care coordinators, cleaners, dentists, prayer leaders and instructors.
